Hi Beauties,
Can you all forgive me for my lack of posting? The last two weeks have been crazy for me and i am usually posting every second day and have hardly had time for two posts but now im back in action for good.
If you follow my instagram (here) you will see i am trying out a bunch of natural and organic skincare products and im so exited to share my thoughts with you all.
In the meantime today i thought i would talk to you about something that has been getting a lot of attention lately. Oil Pulling! How do you do it? How does it benefit you?
I have seen this on two blogs, an online health site, magazines and recently saw this was on the health segment of a daytime tv program. Its safe to say this is getting a fair bit of coverage.
I am sucked in by anything "coconut" because i already use it for so many things this was something i had to try.
What Is Oil Pulling?
Oil pulling is also known as oil swishing. Its a natural remedy that is said to keep your gums healthy, teeth free from cavities and the part that won me over? It makes your teeth WHITER!
This is the inexpensive way to decrease gum disease and tooth decay it is also said to benefit people suffering more than 30 conditions including, heart disease, headaches and diabetes.
What Oil To Use?
Unrefined coconut which has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. The benefit of this is during the pulling the oil acid acts like a soap substance to actually pull out and wash off the plaque.
How To Do It?
Oil pulling is best done in the morning on an empty stomach or right before bed. I prefer the morning. Its recommend you put a tablespoon of oil in your mouth for 5-20 minutes. (This is why i prefer the morning, because i can do it while i make my bed, do my hair etc) All you do is swirl the oil around in your mouth just like you would with a mouth wash. At first it feels a little funny the taste, the oil but then after a few minutes you can feel it working because the oil becomes thin and milk like.
Once you finish swishing spit out the oil into a bin, napkin anything or anywhere besides your sink! Coconut oil isn't a liquid form so remember it goes hard and you don't want that to build up in your drain and clog it up! You will notice immediately how smooth and clean your teeth feel. Follow with brushing as normal.
Do not swallow this oil. Remember this is lifting out the plaque from your teeth so it is not something you want to swallow down into your body, but on another note if you intake one tea spoon of coconut oil a day without swishing the benefits are endless you can read about them in one of my first posts ever (here).
The verdict? After two months of oil pulling my teeth are noticeably whiter. I noticed this after the first week and i recommend this a hundred times more than whitening toothpaste. After three weeks i had no more gingivitis!! As a smoker (guilty) i suffer from bleeding gums time to time and now nothing, no sensitivity in my gums and no bleeding.
Have any of my readers tired this? What do you all think? Has anyone tired the alternative to coconut oil and used sesame oil?

Thanks Lisa! Its such a good home remedy i wish i found out about it sooner! xx
DeleteI have tried this once or twice but with avocado oil instead of coconut. It was a weird sensation to get used to and I don't know that I could ever commit to doing to long term but my mouth did feel different and my breath felt fresher too. Still bit sure if it actually works or if it's just hokum!
ReplyDeleteYou should try coconut oil! I agree it is a weird weird sensation but after the first week i feel like you become used to it. I didnt know if i wanted to commit long term either but after a week once i noticed my teeth whiter i have made it an everyday thing! You should give it a go for a week straight and see how you feel xxx
DeleteI'm not a huge fan of coconut so i've been a bit apprehensive to try this out, but now i've seen a few people saying that it really does work so I might have to get over the taste and give it a go! :) x
ReplyDeleteAt first i couldn't stand the taste but after a week it became normal and now i enjoy it and cant go a day without it. You should give it a try just start off with half a tea spoon its such a small amount and will give you time to get used to the taste! xx
